THE MISSION

The BOA Awards exist to honour the dazzling history of burlesque while celebrating the vibrancy of the scene today. We acknowledge that only parts of burlesque’s story have been spotlighted in the past - and now is the time to celebrate the artists and communities who have not always received the recognition they deserve.

 

Our stage welcomes and uplifts performers from all walks of life: those just stepping into the spotlight, the bold innovators shaping the scene, the mentors and leaders who inspire us all, and the multidisciplinary artists whose contributions continue to enrich and expand the world of burlesque.

 

What makes these awards unique is that they are powered by the community itself. Nominations and voting come directly from the people of our scene, ensuring fairness, eliminating bias, and creating space for genuine recognition. No individual or organisation controls the spotlight - it is the community that decides who is celebrated.

 

We believe burlesque is for everyone. By embracing diversity in all its forms - cultural, queer, disabled, body-diverse and beyond - we showcase a richer, more inclusive and progressive representation of our scene.

 

This night is not only about awards, but about joy, community, and coming together to celebrate the art of burlesque.
